Using NearWord

NearWord lets you look up words on your screen and revisit them in local history. Dictionary lookup is free and does not require an account. AI Context is optional and requires an account and internet access.

Your setup & account

Use a supported operating system and grant the permissions needed for lookup. Dictionary downloads and updates also need internet access. Documentation covers setup and everyday use.

Keep your account information accurate and your sign-in credentials private. Contact us if you believe someone has accessed your account without permission.

You must be at least 16 to create an account or use online features. If you cannot legally enter into these terms on your own, a parent or guardian must agree on your behalf.

Pro, payments & refunds

Purchasing Pro

Pro is an optional monthly or annual subscription. The price, billing interval and applicable taxes are shown before you confirm your purchase. Compare Free and Pro.

You purchase through Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle handles checkout, billing and applicable sales taxes under its Checkout Buyer Terms. These NearWord terms govern your use of the product.

Renewal & cancellation

Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel from Account → Billing. Cancellation stops future renewals. You keep Pro until the end of the current billing period. Uninstalling NearWord does not cancel a subscription.

14-day money-back guarantee

Request a full refund within 14 days of any payment, including renewals. No questions asked. Include the email used for your purchase so we can find the payment.

The refund covers that payment, not earlier billing periods. A full refund ends the Pro access covered by that payment and stops future renewals. Your local history and offline dictionaries are unaffected.

Refunds go through Paddle to your original payment method. This guarantee does not limit any refund or cancellation rights you have under applicable law.

Changes to pricing

Price changes do not change a billing period you have already paid for. You will be notified before a higher renewal price takes effect and can cancel before it applies.

Acceptable use

Pro has no daily limit for ordinary reading. Automated or unusually high request volumes may be temporarily limited to protect the service.

When using NearWord, do not:

• Break the law or infringe someone else’s rights.
• Bypass account access controls, payment requirements or service safeguards.
• Use automated scraping to extract dictionary content or overload the service.
• Resell or redistribute the app or its content without permission.

Restrictions on copying, modifying or reverse engineering do not override permissions granted by applicable law or a component’s own license.

Ownership & license

The app

You receive a limited, non-exclusive license to use NearWord for personal use, study or work under these terms. NearWord’s software, design and branding remain the property of their respective owners. Third-party components remain subject to their own licenses.

Dictionaries & your content

Dictionary definitions and linguistic data belong to their respective owners and remain subject to their licenses. Saving a lookup does not transfer ownership of that content. We do not claim ownership of your own content. You can export or delete your local history.

Service & availability

Text recognition, dictionary results and AI explanations can contain errors. NearWord does not guarantee that every word, app or language will be recognized correctly, or that using it will produce a particular learning outcome.

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, to the extent allowed by law. Online features may be interrupted by maintenance, technical problems or service outages.

Product & terms changes

We may update features, supported systems and these terms as NearWord develops. Planned features are not part of your purchase until they are available. For significant changes, we give notice through the app or account email and update the date on this page. Where required by law, we will ask for your agreement before changes take effect.

Leaving NearWord

Cancel Pro to stop renewals and keep access until your paid period ends. Deleting your account instead ends account access and stops renewals. It does not automatically request a refund or erase your local history.

See account deletion or the uninstall steps. You can still request an eligible refund after deleting your account.

If we discontinue Pro

We will notify you in advance of a planned shutdown and stop renewals. If we discontinue Pro before your paid period ends, we will refund the unused portion through Paddle. This is separate from a temporary service interruption.

We may suspend or end access for a violation of these terms. Provisions about ownership, liability and disputes continue to apply where relevant after access ends.

Liability & disputes

To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or business opportunities arising from use of NearWord. Our total liability for a claim is limited to the amount you paid for NearWord, if any.

These limits do not exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded or remove mandatory consumer rights and remedies.

Resolving a dispute

Contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue. If we cannot reach a resolution, a dispute may be brought before a court with jurisdiction under applicable law. Nothing in these terms removes your right to use a court or remedy available to you under mandatory law.
